About Me

Good day,

My name is Marc Gannon and I am a graduate of the University of Wisconsin who has spent the past 12 years pursuing his goal of being a designer and a marketer. I feel that your open design position would be a wonderful opportunity for me. I currently work in the marketing department for the Madison Public Library where I have had the opportunity to work with librarians to design marketing materials for library events including flyers, posters, signage, and emails as well as write and contribute to the Library Facebook page and Twitter account.  I am also the Marketing Assistant for the Wisconsin Youth Company where I design flyers, posters, maintain our social media and email campaigns, and take and edit photographs of our events. Prior to this I have held several design jobs, mostly in the non-profit sector. These organizations gave me many opportunities to create some great work. Some of the highlights of my portfolio are:

  • Designed, organized and created postcards, flyers, brochures, signage and other marketing materials for Wisconsin Management Company, a local property management company.
  • Creation of marketing materials for The Democratic Party of Wisconsin, including postcards, flyers and mailers. Design of all marketing materials for 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015 State Democratic Convention including signage, invitations, individual credentials and a convention program.  Designed and organized a Wisconsin Delegate Guide for the 2012 National Democratic Convention.
  • Design of marketing materials for The United Way of Dane County’s fundraising and volunteering events including booklets, programs, invitations, signs, emails, web banners and mailers. Assisted in designing and organizing an Annual Report.
  • Designed, wrote and organized marketing materials for The Douglas Stewart Company, an education supply wholesaler, including emails, signage, brochures, monthly mailers, advertisements, and an annual catalog. Designed signage for an annual trade show.

In addition to these jobs I’ve designed show posters and CD covers for local bands, wrote, designed and planned a flyer and a website for a high school alumni fundraising group, designed, managed, planned and updated a department website and a brochure for the Town of Madison Fire Department, and created and designed brochures as well as organized and a maintained a website for a local diploma frame company.

I am highly experienced in all the Adobe design software (Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign). I have experience designing websites, maintaining websites and updating social media (Facebook, Twitter, Etc.). I have extensive experience working with customers, both as a professional designer and as someone who has spent years working in retail and with library patrons. I have a strong attention to detail and I can work on multiple projects simultaneously. I respect deadlines and I hate getting a project to a client late. I love finding the balance between my design ideas and the vision of a client. I am a designer who is passionate about art. I am someone who gets excited about the prospect of a new project. I get bored by dull design and the only thing that’s better than completing something you’re proud of is surpassing the clients expectations. I feel like I am a good designer but I’m always eager to be better. I don’t believe in creative stagnation, there is always a new way to approach a problem, always a new route to try.  I am always looking for new opportunities to be the best designer and the best artist I can be.
